Used to be an avid supporter of VA. Was happy when #richardbranson won the case against BA. bought maximum points and been a flying club member for 25 years. Recently their services especially in premium economy have seriously declined. Exorbitant fees to chose a seat. Dynamic rewards seat pricing which means no point using points! More than 3 times increase in cancelling flights. They don’t show flexible dates which all other airlines do. And now there’s no way to manage your booking through the account you have to contact customer services. And guess what you can’t contact customer services. I’ve been trying for 5 days on all their options. Sad as Branson worked hard to make the company a great British institution. Also sad as the flight crews are always exceptional. I can’t see the company lasting much longer if they continue like this

So to start this review the customer service person we booked out flight with (James) was brilliant. Really listened to how special we wanted our 10th wedding anniversary trip to be and even suggested we went on the later afternoon flight as it was the new model plane with all new seating layout etc . We booked it, splashed out on upper class and waited for the day to come around.
Before the day of the flight we got an email that our flight had changed, upon investigation the plane had been switched to the older model.
We called Virgin but there we no alternatives to choose from.
So we went ahead anyway knowing it's going to be good regardless, our first experience of virgin upper class couldn't be bad right?
The check in (3rd of May) was superb. Quick, seamless with happy people enquiring about your plans. Top marks there. (Security was under construction but we got fast tracked and were literally in the club house 20 mins after checking in...rapid!!)
The clubhouse..... Wow!!!
The service, the food, the place, the relaxation is all top drawer...superb and the best lounge we have been in. Could not fault it.
Then came the plane and flight.
Firstly the stewardess we had was brilliant. She knew it was our wedding anniversary and made sure my wife was comfortable, happy and a lovely bottle of gifted bubbly was presented to her...again top marks.
The plane. Wow did I expect better.
I'm 6'4" (nothing these days!) and my seat was cramped and almost claustrophobic, I couldn't stretch my legs , but I thought no worries I always curl my knees up when I sleep so won't be an issue. Not much space to keep things by you but I made do.
When it came to sleeping the onboard team have to convert your seat to a bed (it doesn't just slide downwards like other aircraft, no this gets flipped over) and it was here the problems began.
The "bed" now in front of me was like sleeping on a piece of wood, which you basically are. It was solid and the little sheet they gave you to go on it made no difference at all to the comfort.
The duvet was nice, the free pyjamas were a great touch , but we didn't get anymore than 2 hours sleep on the flight and woke numerous times with dead arms or legs and forget about sleeping on your back, sheer agony. Terrible!
This didn't spoil our holiday, of course it didn't, but it did make us apprehensive about the flight home the closer it got to leaving and the lack of sleep followed by a 4 hour drive home.
We decided to not flip the beds and recline them as far as we could which appeared a better option and we got some sleep, not much but more than the wooden plank option.
To summarise, Virgins service is very good in flight. Clubhouse is another level and the customer service team (for upper class) is spot on, but the onboard comfort, food standards and price for these, leave a bad taste on the whole experience and do make you look around at other airline options for future flights.
They need to resign these old planes asap, or charge a reasonable/ equivalent / reduced price for the comfort level you receive.
I like you Virgin, but you need to up your game in upper class before we consider spending that amount again on a flight.

My first flight with Virgin Atlantic Airways was the first time I haven’t been allocated a seat next to my partner. To facilitate this a change seat payment of £59 is required, the software appears to ensure that this is £59 x2. This is the sort of scam I would expect from the likes of Ryan not Virgin. In pleb class seats no hand cleaning tissues were provided with meals & no hot flannels at wakey wakey time. I was left felling as if I being treated as a third class passenger & I didn’t much like it.

Seats in economy class now offer absolutely no legroom. Virgin has significantly reduced the space between seats, showing no regard for passenger comfort. My October 24 flight from Orlando to London was a nightmare, leaving me in agony for a week afterwards. The flight has ruined the great memories of my lovely holiday. I had been on a transatlantic cruise from Rome to Orlando.
As a tall person, I've realised I can't handle long-haul flights with this seat configuration. While I acknowledge this is a first-world problem, it's unfortunate as I can't afford business class, and premium economy is only slightly less bad than economy.

Virgin changes flight times like other airlines but describes anything up to 12 HOURS DIFFERENCE as a 'minor' change which is far longer than any other airline I'm aware of even including Ryanair. Try to cancel or change a minor change and you lose around 80% of the money paid. The email notification does not include an apology for inconvenience caused and makes no mention of your original flight times leaving you to search for this yourself. Again, quite different to the approach of other airlines.

Just returned from miami to London. Very efficient. I like the way they call out row numbers which avoids the Ryan Air scrum and everyone being squashed by the exit. Staff are excellent and willing to engage and actually talk to you even though they must be under pressure to get their job done and the plane off the ground. Food in economy was good so I'm sure further up the plane its even better

Given the volume of flights you handle I have to say when we were delayed out of Las Vagas in November flights rearranged etc and the compensation under law was paid in under the promised SLA by 14 days (21 promised) ….I am sure if I had had expenses these would have been paid in a tardy manner unlike my experience of another UK trans Atlantic airline.. website once you got your head around logic of clicks to get to where you needed was informative and clean which is important…. I have to say as I was unable to experience finding accommodation etc given delay noting where you offered no help (virgin holidays) as staying with relatives I am unable to comment …. That staying Professional and informed colleagues at every touch point which in my view gives 5 stars every time ….

Pricey airline with complete mismanagement. I flew from Mumbai to LA. Their flight to London started more than an hour late from Mumbai making many passengers miss connection to LA at LHR. As a compensation they provided extremely generous £10 meal voucher and rebooked me to the most inconvenient routes flights post 7 hours of wait time in London with highly uncomfortable destination landing times and less than an hour's gap in between for bag claim, immigration and customs, re-check in bag and board the next plane. In addition, they failed to provide me with my special meals on rebooked flights. My door to door journey ended up being 57 hours long with all the chaos and airline's mismanagement. Not to mention, the airline had charged me 4-5 times higher than the usual fare for pre-poning my flight excusing for higher demand and supply 🙄
