Lovely Inn, perfectly located for castles, walks and stunning scenery. Also, plenty of food spots within walking distance.

The staff were accommodating and friendly, the only negative was that the water pressure was lacking, but that's it!

Clean and comfortable but very tired and needing lots of TLC. Room was very clean, but so outdated. Only one socket, by the bathroom door, have to get out of bed to switch off the lights. Needs a major refit. Breakfast was basic but ok. Didn't eat here as no evening food available. Wouldn't stay again until it's all been updated.

Customer service was great we popped in for a spur of the moment Sunday lunch. Nice to see much needed improvements inside & out. Food was served promptly & very enjoyable - just a little suggestion for hygiene & cleanliness the staff member working the bar & cleaning tables with a cloth that looked like it had been used to clean the floors. Maybe have a separate cloth for the bar use & one for cleaning in the eating areas/ tables etc.

Driving to an AirBnB we had booked our host contacted us to say his power was out due to a recent storm, so we stopped at The Stokesay to wait for the word it was back on. The staff (and locals) were friendly, the beer was good and Steve, the manager, got chatting to us about the coming improvements to the inn, which sound like they’ll take the Stokesay to another level. When the word came that our AirBnB wouldn’t be available, he offered us a room at a fair rate. We’d planned to self cater, and had plenty of food, so Steve let us store it in his fridge, and heat the dinner we had with us. The room (made up last minute for us) was simple but comfortable and clean. Steve and Dagnija(?) are good people, and went out of their way to save us from a tricky spot.

A warm welcome with excellent service throughout during our time here this afternoon. Food was delicious too!
This husband and wife that made this so good, only took over the license in October '23 and have made impressive changes with more to come including live music.
Sadly, I've had to take a star off due the attitude of the barmaid when we returned with friends that evening.
She made us all feel like we were stopping her from closing up when she called time at 9.45pm. Hovering around and taking glases off of the table as we finish them while we are taking and finishing our drink; take the glasses when we've all finished.

Bedroom was clean and so was the en-suite. Clean towels, bed-sheets and all shampoo/soap provided. Prices were fair. On my stay it was quite at night. There is also free Wi-Fi available. On this visit I did not try the food but I will the next time. The location is great. Stokesay Castle is not far away and there are some lovely open scenic walking paths behind the Stokesay Inn. There is a fish and chips shop very close-by and a supermarket so everything is within range. The local architecture is very nice too - very gothic/medevil/victorian.

One thing that would have been nice to have would have been food delivered to your bedroom. Like food service. Looking forward to the next time.

Edit* To update I have now had a second visit and all was excellent again.

Had lunch and a pint here today. I noticed a few people from the centre next door, they must do well when their cafe is crowded. Service was fast and efficient and staff very helpful, but unfortunately they only had one real ale but a reasonable range of beers. Tried the steak pie which wasn't too bad.
