Richard is not only an amazing artist but a great teacher of both oils and gouache. His natural and generous style of teaching is both informative and flexible while putting his students at ease. His classes are suitable for both beginner and more advanced painters, with the groups being incredibly friendly.

Richard creates a lovely relaxed environment in which to experiment, learn and improve on your painting skills. His demonstrations are excellent, during which he takes the time to answer questions and then encourages and assists each student individually as they work on their own paintings, taking into account their own styles and ways of working.

Richard is a professional but friendly teacher making his classes a real joy.

Richard is an inspirational teacher. He is very skilled at encouraging people of all abilities, kind and generous with his time and knowledge, and always gives positive feedback. As a ceramicist turned a beginner painter, Richard has taught me how to mix my own colours from basic primaries, palette knife and brush techniques, and imaginative landscape painting with oils. I would definitely recommend one of his courses.

Richard created and has successfully run two painting classes in Pott Row where students have continued since the start two years ago , and both beginners and painters have made much progress.
Richard prepares his class well- tables, easels and all materials, than announces the day’s theme and starts an excellent demonstration.He talks through what he is doing ;use and mix of colour, achieving a technique and composition etc. He stops before it gets too good just at the point when students are inspired to try themselves!
Richard responds courteously to all requests and is always encouraging . He is sensitive to the needs of older people and those with special needs.He shows a genuine love of his subject and is making an excellent contribution towards community adult education.

I found Richard's classes to be a wonderfully relaxed and sociable space to reignite my passion for oil painting after more than 30 years away from the easel.

Each week Richard would guide us on various approaches to painting with oils, offering different exercises and viewpoints on things such as colour palette and how other artists use this and varied techniques to achieve the desired effect. One of the lovely things about this was how we all connected as a group, developing lasting friendships along the way.

It also helps that Richard is a lovely bloke who makes a good cup of coffee to boot! Would definitely recommend them to anyone in North or West Norfolk looking for art classes to attend.

Richard provides an excellent weekly 2 hour oil painting workshop. I started as an absolute beginner and, since joining the class, I have learned an enormous amount about composition and technique. Perhaps most importantly, I have gained confidence. Richard is a very good and generous teacher.
