I visited as part of a pre-booked group. I’m not sure if you can just turn up. We had an interesting guided tour and learnt about the history of the gas-works before the days of “North Sea gas” There are some quirky exhibits including a gas hair dryer and a gas radio, I kid you not!

A Very Historical And Interesting Building, Show's How Leicester Looked ,When Leicester Was Lit By Gas Street Lamps And Later To Modern Day Electrical Street Lamps - The Building In Which The Gas Museum Stands is A historic gas monument.And under the Clock Tower of a Victorian listed building which dates from 1878 When town gas was first made on The Site on Aylestone Road.

A "hidden" gem of Leicester. It's been there for nearly 50 years but never heard of it until last week. Very small-scale but quite fascinating. Recognized a lot of appliances remembered from my youth (see photo). Pluses were, it's free to enter & there's plenty of parking available. The chap at "reception"(Andy) was welcoming, polite, informative & friendly.

A Hidden Gem, full of memorabilia from the oldest cooker from 1890s, a 1920s kitchen and some more modern appliances. A piece of real history soon to be pushed to the back of our memories as fossil fuel become a thing of the past. Dog Friendly too.

We visited the National Gas Museum with a group and thoroughly enjoyed the visit. Staff made us feel very welcome and gave a good introductory talk about the history of the building. Our group loved exploring the range of quirky displays, which sparked plenty of conversations - "I remember...". Staff were very accommodating of our group visit from our initial enquiries through to helping us set up on the day. We brought our own refreshments and used the museum as a venue for our volunteer social event and it worked very well. Thank you, it was most enjoyable.

Nice little museum, very informative about all things gas .
Who new some many things were powered by gas !!!
How people never injured themselves more often beggers belief 😳
Worth a trip if you want to see something a bit different.
