A fantastic college with exceptional teachers, state-of-the-art facilities. I studied both Math and English and so much enjoyed the experience. The staff are always warm and welcoming, and I want to give a special shoutout to Daniel – you are an outstanding teacher!

AVOID THIS COLLEGE
Absolute disgrace from the hairdressers department. My daughter suffers from anxiety, managed to come out of her shell and settle in only to be met with 4, yes FOUR bereavements during her Ivi 2 year, caught up on all her work, got to the end of it not being offered a Ivi 3 place, dangled about and then told to come back up to the college for a face to face meeting to embarrass her by denying her the IVI 3 which could have been handled over the phone or via email. Shocking behaviour from them overall and to belittle someone who has been through so much this past year! They blamed her attendance! Im sorry but should we ask people to 'not just die' so my daughter can get her 'bum on a seat' to please their numbers so ofstead hand them their funding... disgrace of a college, lecturers have no compassion, no respect, and no integrity from the hairdressing teachers. Shameful. Would not advise anybody to study there.

I can echo one of the previous reviews of Gateshead College. The teaching and work given was of poor quality and the tutors seemed to just be going through the motions. On one occasion, a tutor came in 30 minutes late to a lesson (this was an afternoon lesson) and apologised as they'd had a meeting. They then proceeded to play a Youtube tutorial and that was our teaching for the day. I regularly left lessons feeling confused and hopeless.

There was also one extremely condescending tutor who simply was not fit to do her job. One of the students would regularly point out her mistakes and her lack of knowledge on her position despite telling us she'd worked there 22 years. Students seem to be treated more as statistics, meanwhile we were constantly given reminders of the "incredible mental health services the college offers." Anyone with half a brain can see that this is all theatrical and performative for those visiting the college.

Our class were instructed to fill out a survey for the college, detailing our experience there. My tutor specifically reminded us to not include any negative information and to try and keep it was positive as possible. I mean, what's the point? My tutors were also distracted by learning facilitators who, instead of facilitating learning, regularly got in the way of students that were actually studying at the college and needed support from tutors.

Most of my tutors were clearly doing the best with what they had, and also seemed irritated by the way the college was operated when it came to attendance and communication issues. I was shocked to learn Gateshead College had been open for so long and were still operating in such an unorganised way.

My academic pursuit at Gateshead College focused on Games Design; however, I cannot recommend this institution due to several issues. The college exhibited a low-quality learning environment with inadequate teaching standards. I faced numerous challenges in acquiring knowledge as the instructors often resorted to playing YouTube tutorials rather than providing meaningful instruction. The course content was generally ambiguous, irrelevant, and pessimistic, with the teachers discouraging students from pursuing careers in the industry, telling them it was very unlikely they would make it.

The most prominent problem I encountered was the absence of homework assignments throughout the academic year, leaving an extensive workload to be completed hastily towards the year-end, leading to immense stress. The staff acknowledged this, yet any complaints were either dismissed or ignored. Furthermore, I recall experiencing frequent use of derogatory language, hate speech, and racism by students. Which was not dealt with seriously.

The college offered little support in various areas, including academic, practical, mental health, and disciplinary support. The available mental health support services had excruciatingly long waiting periods, with the college only providing assistance at the end of the academic year, which is unacceptable.

The dearth of support and numerous challenges led me to discontinue my studies at Gateshead College after one year. I hope the college administration recognizes the imperative need for significant improvement.

The best college ever is Gateshead College!! I completed a two-year program at Gateshead College, beginning in 2020 and ending in 2022. In addition, I completed a childcare course alongside my English and math GCSES and a level 3 ACSESS to HE diploma in science.
Mark Stewart and Deborah Ferguson were my teachers, and they were the most supportive. I would highly suggest Gateshead College to everyone. I had an excellent experience studying at Gateshead College, and now that I'm at Sunderland University, I'm studying a degree in biomedical science.

This college has the utmost respect for the mentally and physically disabled running many programs to help teach everyone they can and there are many disabled ramps and lifts to allow easy access to all quadrants of the college for those wheelchair bound. The college is as only good as the staff that it employs and every member of staff are experts in there field, the bond shared between student and tutor is a close friend type bond that you and your childhood friend create, the staff are friendly and find new ways to make college more enjoyable for everyone. I have found nothing bad about this college and highly recommend this to be your choice if you are thinking about further education. 5/5 stars

A great, friendly atmosphere. The tutors are kind and determined to help the students achieve their goals.
Easy to find your way around and the elevators make for great wheelchair access.
However the hand dryers aren't too good.
