Opinions

Brilliant site on the edge of Bishopthorpe near York. The village has everything you could need. Very close to the Solar cycle way that runs into York or go the other way to the village of Riccall. The site has water and ehu to each pitch for a very reasonable ÂŖ22per night. Lovely helpful owner. Either grass or separate area that is fully hardstanding for motorhomes or winter use.

Hidden little gem. So peaceful here. Will come back again.

Great few days at this quiet woodland site. All pitches have EHU and water. Went for the York Ebor Meeting. Easy walk from site to the racecourse takes about 50 minutes all on metalled paths.
Fabulous Fish and Chips at the end of the lane, a Co-op and 2 good pubs in the village. Bus stop for York also. Good walks. Will be back!

Nice quiet stay, very friendly, hard standing area is very rough stoned area not very good if you have mobility problems, very shaded , chemical waste area and bins very basic and there is no lighting whats so ever so you will need to do your bins and waste before dark and definitely need a tourch if you venture out at night.
Ideally situated for york Park and ride 8 minutes in the car , carpark is free and shuts at 8.30pm the bus ride into York is ÂŖ3.60 return each, which i thought was very reasonably priced. There is a large tesco extra 10 minute away,

Stayed two weeks at the end of April.

Choose this site to be right on the York Solar System Cycleway, part of the National Cycleway Route 65 (Yorks to Selby Sustrans Route), part of the Trans-Pennine Trail. We had some great bike rides down to Selby and also into and round York.

We found being close to the Park and Ride great and used it several times when visiting York on foot.

Gillian met us on arrival and took us down to show us where to pitch. The grass CL area looked nice with plenty of room for 5 pitches in a row, but due to all the rain and soft ground we went on the hard standing area. This was like a little woodland clearing, being April the trees did not have all their leaves so it was reasonably bright. There were only 4 caravans or less in this area which worked well and gave everyone plenty of space, I think it would be a bit tight with 5. But keep in mind this is the winter area when the grass is wet.
All pitches the hard area and the grass have electricity and own water, we put our grey waste into the dyke. In the grass area there are bushes behind.

The service area was good with a good chemical loo disposal (I like that, the ones knee high and above) We felt the site was very secure and private. There was some traffic noise from the A64 which at times was non existent when the wind was blowing in the right direction.

I recommend Copmanthorpe Chippy for fish and chips and for food, apart from the main supermarkets we used
Lodge Cottage Farm Shop, Crockey Hill. (excellent pies)
The Balloon Tree Farmshop & Cafe along with Greyleys Jersey Milk also at Elvington
There is another milk machine at Curlew Fields Dairies who also do lovely ice-cream.
The milk machines were great, not Raw but unhomogenised good milk.

Apart from our cycle rides I have to say Stillingfleet Lodge Gardens is well worth a visit.

A great located site on the edge of town 45 minute walk into York by the river. Close to the Quay and marina to watch the river traffic. Second time we've stayed.
