Overall, I had an acceptable experience with Rob in a quartet Business English course. It was held at a consultancy firm between July and October 2024.

Positives

Don't get me wrong. I truly enjoyed the technical aspects Rob explained, particularly in helping me write and speak more like a British native speaker. He also provided a consistent amount of summaries and shared tips on various topics, such as intensifiers, connectors, clauses, etc. Additionally, he reviewed most of the homework assigned on a weekly basis, and the classes were enjoyable at times.

Negatives

I was, however, quite disappointed to notice a discrepancy between the initial commitment and proposal he made - without any necessary clarification - and what actually transpired. He initially committed for ten quartet lessons and five one-to-one hours, but he did not fulfil this promise.
In one of the quartet lessons, he claimed there were "severe delays" on a tube line, "partial suspensions" on "one of the alternative bus lines", and he forecasted "hurricane-force winds" less than two hours before the session was due to start. However, disruptions were never confirmed by the transportation company operating the service in any official form. Furthermore, wind speed data recorded that day showed a Beaufort scale value between 2 and 3 (around 12 to 13 km/h, or a ‘light breeze’ to ‘gentle breeze’). He refused:
o To postpone the in-person lecture later in the day
o To conduct it online
o To reschedule it in the following day or week*
On another occasion, circa three-to-four minutes after getting informed about my intention to leave the firm, he secretly contacted the other students, stating that he would reallocate the five one-to-one hours originally committed to me. He did not discuss this with me in person, nor did he notify me in the weeks that followed. He then claimed to be a "mere supplier" and said that he was not involved in the decision-making process. This behaviour was definitely not the level of professionalism I would expect from a ‘Teacher, Trainer, and Language Consultant with over 30 years of experience.’ In particular, it was disappointing on a human level.

* I believe he eventually made up the session 27 days later, but I can’t confirm this because I had left the firm by that time.

Conclusions

Notwithstanding the issues listed above, I would still recommend his services to firms looking for tangible improvements in Business English for their employees. However, technical competence is only one part of the broader skill set required, and his behaviour towards me fell short of the work ethic I would expect from any professional.

I regret having to leave a negative review, especially as it contrasts with the other comments. This is primarily due to the specific circumstances I encountered from a human perspective.

Learning with Rob has been really enjoyable and I have felt always supported and really lucky to have Rob as my English teacher.
