Applied for an evening course with no entry requirements. So, if it's marketed, there are places, and if it isn't, there aren't places, right? Wrong. Week before the course, I'd heard nothing back, so I emailed in to find out what was going on. I got an email back a few days later saying that the course was "oversubscribed" and I'd been put on a shortlist for the next course. That wouldn't be an issue if they'd just told me, these things happen, no big deal. But this was weeks after I'd applied and nobody had reached out, days before the course was due to start. To not bother updating someone is just plain rude.

Also, I didn't apply for the next course for a reason - I can't do those dates. Putting me on a list, without my knowledge or consent, potentially took away a place from someone else. Communicating with me would have stopped all that - helping me and possibly helping someone wanting the next course.

Cherry on top was when I checked the website and found that the course I'd applied for was still being marketed...

My advice? Go elsewhere and save your money. Good teaching is about communicating information to you effectively. If they can't even communicate the basics, like whether you're on a course or not, how are they supposed to communicate well enough to improve your skill set?

At least mine was just an evening course, though. Hardly life-changing. I'm just glad I found out how useless they are, as my nephews have been considering going here after school and I can now save them the hassle and point them towards institutions that seem more competent.

RESPONSE TO CITY COLLEGE PLYMOUTH'S REPLY: Original reviewers can not reply to you on Google, so it helps if you advise where you want the requested information to be sent to... Respectfully, you are proving my point with this response, in that CCP's communication is inadequate.

Without contact information, I can only edit to respond. As such, I am not going to post personal information online, and I'm concerned that an organisation that routinely teaches minors is encouraging anyone to post identifiable information on such a publicly accessible site as Google.

Not sure how many of these issues you're having, but my problem was highlighted directly to CCP, in writing, before this review was posted. The review was posted when it became evident that CCP had no interest in fixing it, making it a matter of public interest for prospective students, who have a right to know what to expect from you.

This is the best place of education I have ever been. The teachers are very helpful and supportive. No wonder why City College has been ranked Number 1 in the South West to get a qualification you want.

I studied at city college Plymouth for two years. After receiving the highest grades during several bereavements, I was threatened with a stage three. I was threatened I would be kicked off the course! I was bullied all throughout the years. The college was aware of this and did nothing about it. As well as this, Safeguarding did not take my side even when I had physical evidence backing me up. It crushed my confidence, made me feel extremely low and demotivated. The performing arts course is meant to be challenging, I was not challenged once. After getting into a top acting school in London, I was not guided at all through the UCAS process. I had to learn it all by myself. I was told my LAMDA Acting qualifications and RAD Ballet qualifications meant nothing. Now I see I am being used in their photos to promote their course, when not one of them could acknowledge my success of getting into a top London acting school. Now it’s August, I haven’t even received my results on time!

2021-2024 my experience with this college has been okay. ive taken a ICT course and 2 Music courses in my time
Bad experiences i have had is 4 teachers with weird god superiority complexes who think they are king charles and deserved their bum to be kissed and are bully’s and 2 of them reporting me of stage 3 abuse to staff for no actual reason.
They added weird security stuff that is a total waste of the colleges money this was added late 2023 its like they think they are in america with a billion school shooters.
The food and drink is VERY overpriced before going college go to POUNDLAND to save you a lot of money.
since late 2023 the internet got given restricted.

Despite those bad experiences above the rest of the college is just fine but i can imagine it getting worse with the new security system the college is just fine

The amazing teachers there are Gemma Lane, James Robins and Tony Toller They did there best and will always try to support you and i appreciate them a lot for being kind and supportive.

in my opinion there’s nothing special about this college it’s just a college, but if your into music you will have a good time doing a Level 1/2/3 Performance and Production course i enjoyed it so much.

Really amazing team to work alongside, having met and photographed a group of successful current students and alumni, they were all confident in themselves, their futures and attributed a large part of this to their educational kickstart at City College Plymouth.

I've had various courses and education experiences in my life, but the City College Plymouth stands out as the worst.
It feels more like a business than an educational institution, solely focused on making money.
My time there was a complete waste.
Also with a lack of positive energy and mistreatment of tutors. Find out chief salary is £160.000 a year and tutors struggling to pay their rent 😂😂.
That why the tutors they often engage in strikes!
And the survey felt more like a manipulation to receive high marks.
It's baffling how they persist despite numerous complaints. Has anyone from authority ever investigated what's happening there?
Good luck to everyone.
