On 9 October 2024 had the unfortunate experience pf attending St George's hospital in Tooting for a long awaited complex trauma appointment with the orthopaedic team. Who undertakes the 'triage' process because this is where the problem started. The referral was for historic polytrauma but the referral was done to the hip and knee team under Mr Sulaiman Alazzawi, where unfortunately l was first seen by one of his registrar's l have assumed this done as a mechanism to speed up the appointment process and ensure "the surgeon" only see those patents who operations can be performed on! It was not for an ordinary condition which my referral was made for, it was for suspected bilateral asymmetrical hip dislocation and complications of a potential "off - cuff" shoulder conditions, requiring a multidisciplinary approach: The imaging (x-ray) which l was redirected to upon arrival and signing in at reception, did not include a "lateral curve edge angle" scan (LCEA) but the registrar despite my attempts to disclose and put across my trauma,; failed to hear anything that l said to him; most likely due to being BAME patient. I wonder how many cases of bilateral hip dislocation this team has ever diagnosed or come across; most likely none!. Instead of "referring me on" to the complex orthopaedic team, l was instead "discharged back" to my GP to go through the entire process all over again. GPs can't refer to the complex orthopaedic team so something is wrong here! Either the clinicians or the processes within this hospital or the NICE / NHS processes are too archaic and are unfit for purpose in the 21st century, otherwise patients with severe conditions would get the proper diagnostic evaluation, would not fall through the net and get missed. and operations would be performed on those patients who represent its community demographics which the hospital serves; not the "privileged few"; or maybe THEY don't matter. The appointment lasted 10 minutes if that. Ask first do not trust any registrar to decipher what you want to say to the consultant about your own condition , surgeon or just the registrar and insist on speaking to them. Do not settle with speaking to a registrar. The service within the hip and knee orthopaedics at St George's works for development of its clinicians its not about the patients; we're just going round in circles trying to get to the right service with GPs who are having the same difficulties as the patients and specialist services do nothing to close that chain and save on cost.! The severity of my conditions was not recognised and l was treated like "a commodity on a production line" . An absolutely atrocious experience!

Awful 3 years at this university, wish I never went here. Admin is particularly slow. I hope it improves now it's joined with City.

The basic staff aren't nice or welcoming at all. The urgent treatment centre has nonchalant and abrupt staff. Customer services isn't of a decent standard at all. I think croydon is terrible but this was another level of rude. Beyond a joke. All the staff speak with no concern or empathy at all and their dealing with ppl with pain and difficulties. I will NOT BE RETURNING HERE AGAIN. Thanks for that experience. That was enough for me.

I go every 2-4 weeks to collect my blood test form from rheumatology and then go for a blood test. Rheumatology book me in for my next blood test form collection and I then book my blood test appointment.
The blood test computer for checking in is normally always having an issue and the poor phlebotomists are having to come out and call people by name or last 3 digits of phone number (if that person has been set up for the blood test appointment system over the phone)
Where you sit while waiting for your blood test isn’t in line with the screen you need to be watching for your name and what cubicle to go to so people miss it -also as you don’t know you have to look there then there should be a sign or a note when you book your appointment that you need to do that.
When the system is working you check yourself in for your blood test on a computer by the entrance to the room by following the instructions of your first and surname initials or you can check yourself in on the system via the website on your phone
