I recently attended the day 1 beginners navigation course on the Saturday and then did the Silver NNAS award on the Sunday. As someone who walks and run's a lot around the countryside, but always relies on tech, this course was really interesting, practical and kept me thinking the whole way through. Linda was a fantastic teacher, making things easy to understand but also challenging us to find the answers for ourselves rather than just feed us information. Day 1 was mainly teaching in the village hall in the morning, and then out for some practical skills in the afternoon in fields and then moorland. Day 2 was out and about in a variety of terrains but mainly moorland and hills. This day really got me thinking and working with my team mates to try and hit certain points as well as thinking about safety and the needs of the rest of the group. I really enjoyed the weekend and learned loads of new skills. Thanks to this course the navigation bug has well and truly got me and I'm sure I'll be back with Peak Navigation at some point to do the Gold award. Just need the practice now!!

Had a very enjoyable day recently on the Beginners Course with Austin. A lovely small group, Austin was great at tailoring the day towards what we all individually wanted to get out of it. Loved the map reading and compass use on Longstone moor. Great that you are given up lots of follow up suggestions for further practice, guidance and walks. Fun and practical, thankyou!

We completed the course with Austin on the 17 February 2024 as a private family group.
It was an absolute ball. Austin is an amazingly patient teacher. We are quite a chaotic high energy group and Austin did such a good job drawing the line between allowing us to ask all the questions, go on tangents and mess around loads but also making sure we got on with the job at hand. He was also very funny himself which added a lot to the experience.
Austin also was able to tailor the course to provide information that is extremely useful to us as individuals such as providing useful information about checking different weather sources, explaining gust/wind speeds and the different cut off points as well as showing us how to navigate in poor weather conditions/in the dark.
I particularly enjoyed learning about the maps and how to use them to work out where we were. The introductory videos provided before the course were really interesting!
I would recommend this course to anybody looking to gain more confidence outdoors and would definitely look at doing a further course with Peak Navigation int he future.

First experience of a Map Reading and navigation course. Took my 11-year old daughter with me. What a fantastic day! We learned so much. Totally professional and safe. In the afternoon we were finding ancient burial mounds using OS map and compass. Had loads of fun and would highly recommend.

Linda was an excellent teacher. The course is perfect for beginners and there is repeated re-enforcements of take home messages through the day. The pre-course videos were very helpful as well. Would thoroughly recommend.

I completed Navigation for Beginners Course today.
What an inspiring day. Taught in a personal way at the level of the participants. I learnt so much and it has given me the confidence to move out on my own knowing I have the skills to correct any misplacement.
Mike and Jane are passionate about imparting their great knowledge in a fun engaging way. I recommend coming and seeing for yourself. You can't go in the wrong direction
